YBF Skincare Control Review

I thought it was about time I gave a review of the YBF Skincare Control product I had the pleasure of receiving from Darrell Owen, co-founder of Your Best Face Skincare product line. I have never really reviewed a product before so bare with me and please do give me some feedback if I’m not making any sense or if you have some questions.
First of all Control comes in a 30ml/1oz container, which definitely makes it easy to take on any flight as it will meet Airport Securities requirements. Control has an orange colour with a very slight scent. There is no heavy perfume smell and the cream is fairly thick and pliable. What I do like about the product is how quickly it is absorbed into the skin. There is no greasy feeling left behind and my skin feels fresh after applying it around my eyes. I find most skin products do not absorb as quickly and usually make the skin feel slightly greasy.
I will admit I was skeptical of the product, but I enjoyed using it. I haven’t been using it as prescribed and have only been applying it in the mornings as part of my daily routine over the past 30 days. That being said I have noticed improvements in the overall appearance of my skin in the areas that I have been applying Control. Though I didn’t really have many wrinkles to begin with but the ones I have are being reduced. As a side effect I’ve noticed that when I have dark circles under the eyes they seem to disappear shortly after I have applied it under the eyes.
I love the way this product feels and is absorbed. I like that it does not leave a heavy perfume behind, doesn’t feel greasy and you can blend it with any other product including sunscreen.
Now for some drawbacks.
First of all I have to say that at $160 per bottle the average person wouldn’t be able to afford it. I am not a chemist and I am not familiar with the ingredients that it contains. Also for that price I would have expected a larger bottle.
Secondly the bottle itself leaves something to be desired. There is nothing fancy or elegant about the way it is designed. I would have liked to have seen a glass bottle which you could see how much of the product is remaining. Or a nice black bottle giving it a more masculine look and appealing more to men.
Thirdly I would have hoped in this day and age products would come with some sunscreen built in. I am always worried about sun damage and having some sunscreen built into the product would make it that more desirable.
Overall I give the product an 8.5 out of 10. The product to me does exactly what it says it will do; it “controls” your skin and helps it from the daily stresses while rejuvenating your skin, controlling wrinkles and adding some anti-oxidants. Russ is having better results with it than I am and he swears by the product.
YBF Skincare you have a great product here and thank you very much for allowing me the opportunity to test it out! If you have anything more you’d like me to test, please contact me :).

Darrell Owens | July 3, 2008 | 11:24 amHello,
I had sent the below note of thanks to Gus this morning and he invited me to post it in the comments section - that the extra context may be helpful to readers. Again - thank you Gus!

Gus,
Thank you for the fantastic review of Control. I’m glad you enjoyed using it and I appreciate that you included the feedback you did. I think it’s extremely helpful to get feedback like that and I think readers will appreciate it too.
The point you made about the sunscreen is a good one that highlights where we need to do a better job explaining our product benefits.
Our formulas are actually a step up from traditional sunscreens, which physically block or screen out UV light. The spin trap in our products protects skin from UV in a different way. It reduces skin’s sensitivity and reaction to UV, thus protecting it at a cellular level instead of just screening out the UV.
Hopefully you will hear more about the benefits of spin trap in the years to come as right now, it is one of the most costly antioxidants available today.
We still suggest use of traditional sunscreens though and see our products as more of a compliment…or second layer of defense against aging UV rays.
Thank you again and I’m glad to hear Russ also likes the Control.
Sincerely,
Darrell Owens, founding partner

Ken | July 3, 2008 | 11:54 pmHi Gus,
Good job with the review. It gives me a good general sense of the product’s pros and cons. With regards to the structure of the review, the only suggestion I have is to include what the purpose of the product is at the beginning. I had no idea what the product was supposed to do until the very end when you mentioned “The product to me does exactly what it says it will do…” So a brief overview of the product’s claims followed by the review would greatly help the flow - at least, in my opinion.
