With the hundreds of thousands people coming into the downtown core each and everyday one would expect to see trash everywhere in this city, but you’d be surprised how clean Vancouver looks. Not only are the people in town doing their job and placing garbage where they should, but we have dedicated people walking around [...]
The Vancouver 2010 Olympics are well underway now and the excitement throughout the city has been amazing.
With the amount of people that are constantly in the downtown core and all the free venues, pavilions and concerts, line ups have become the new Olympic event. Some line ups can last a short 10 minutes, while others [...]
During the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, many countries will host their own pavilion showcasing their countries best offerings, but I didn’t see Argentina offering a pavilion or area for their athletes to hang out at.
Being from Argentina myself and growing up with the culture I was thinking yesterday about this and have decided to open [...]
From February 4 – 28 between dusk to dawn, 20 robotic spotlight will create a canopy of lights over English Bay known as Vectorial Elevation. The art work was created by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer from Montreal for the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad.
Vectorial Elevation is an interactive artwork that allows participants to transform the sky over Vancouver, [...]
Today while reading some news sites, I came across this wonderful video featuring our lovely city Vancouver as it gets ready to host the world for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. What is fasinating about the video is it is shot in timelapse HD. The pictures are truly amazing and it captures the mystery and [...]
As most of my friends on Twitter know by now, my Vancouver 2010 Ceremonies audition didn’t pan out.
I wrote over a week ago that I hadn’t heard back from VANOC about my volunteer placement nor about my ceremonies audition. I was to hear from them by September and this past week I got my email [...]
Almost 10 months ago I had my first interview to be a potential Vancouver 2010 Olympic Volunteer. I did know that I had over 14 months before the games would land in Vancouver, but I was excited and happy to just be a part of this world event. I was hoping to get some pre-volunteer [...]
This past week I was invited to attend a event called “Sport in the Sky” to celebrate with Canadian Paralympic athletes International Paralympic Day. I was fortunate enough to go along with two other Vancouver bloggers Raul and Beth and experience the skills of some of our top Paralympic athletes.
With the Vancouver Winter Olympic [...]
Last November I wrote about my experience at being interviewed to volunteer during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. As I didn’t hear back from them in sometime, last month I decided to put my hat into appearing in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Today I received a call saying I have an audition at [...]

I had my face to face interview a couple of months ago. It was pretty interesting. As you arrive you are given a name tag and then directed to the RCMP table where you hand in your police check form and show your ID. Then we were taken into a large room and shown a video about past olympic volunteer experiences. Then we split into 2 groups and had some interactive exercises which were kind of fun. We were further split into smaller groups of 2-3 and then had to match up venues with the sporting events. They gave us a really nice binder full of olympic volunteering stuff and gave us a commemorative pin and sticker of the mascots. It all ended up with a tear jerker of a short film. Oh yeah – we also had one on one interviews as well with their staff. They asked pretty much the same thing that they did on the long phone interview. I was also asked about a leadership role, which I was fine with. I just hope I get a call back saying I’m in!! There’s about twice as many volunteers as positions available. I hope yours goes well! I do think they could have easily done this interview in about 2 hours but all in all it was an interesting experience!
I look forward to seeing what yours was like. Mine wasn’t at the PNE, it was at their office out by the Burnaby/Vancouver border. Best wishes!

Thanks for the comments all. I was going to blog about my experience, but looks like we have some great comments here.
@Lynn you had the same experience as I did. I think it gave us all the chance to see what building “Team 2010″ is like and give us an insight on what will be required of us.
@Shirley you will have a great time, meet new people and get to share in the passion.
I was interviewed for events, though I was in a group with media relations. I put my name in there during my interview as well as I work for a newswire company and think it will be great as well.
If you are volunteering for Events, which begin January 2009, you should find out if you are accepted by late this year and early next year. They asked us to keep a look out for an email and log into the Volunteer website and check “your calendar” from time to time.

Didn’t know 2010 was happening there. That must mean 2009 has been decided. I guess I’m out of that loop. I’m dropping by from Netchick’s.

this might be a stupid questions but what did people wear to the “creating team 2010″ interview? its a volunteer position so i’m thinking a dress shirt and dress pants might be over the top…

@sah – Just wear something comfortable. When I interviewed I just wore jeans. They are looking at your interaction and enthusiasm.
