I didn’t want this day to go without wishing Russ a Happy Birthday.

Even though he doesn’t like people making a fuss over his birthday, I think I did well in giving him a gift that he enjoyed this past weekend.

Today is youngest nephew Steven’s birthday.

When I was in Toronto last month I got reconnect with him and find out what a truly amazing kid he is.  He loves to go-kart race and currently competes.  I believe this boy is going to be a future Indy car racer or will be involved in some kind of stunt work.

Although I can’t be there to celebrate with him, I wanted to take the time to wish him a fantastic day.

UPDATE: Again I got the dates screwed up.  Steven’s birthday is actually on July 17th!!!  Happy Birthday Steven!

What a great Canada Day it has been.

Today I woke up nice and early (due to the fact that it is a weekday and I’m usually up by 8am), and I walked Junior and then relaxed at home for most of the morning.

Russ and I later headed out to Zigz on Main Street and since I was in the neighbourhood I text message Raul to see if he was up for an improve to meeting.  He surprised me and showed up and we chatted as Russ and I ate some lunch. I got to know Raul a little more from the usual blog posts I have read and the social media events we attend. Raul you’re definitely a great guy and I hope we’ll get to hang out some more as time and schedules permit. You’re a breath of fresh air with a side of rajas on the east side.

We dropped Raul off at the Super Store and headed back home to rest and relax a bit.

We later headed over to Gail’s birthday party celebration.  This was a combination birthday for her and for Canada Day!  wOOt!  Burgers and drinks were flowing and Junior was there and was playing with some of the dogs that were also in attendance.  One dog was really after Junior though and wanted nothing more than to hump the poor guy.  This dog wasn’t small in any sense and I was almost at the point of driving Junior back home, but we got things under control and managed to have a great time.

Nothing better than spending a relaxing day with some good friends!

Happy Birthday Canada!

You don’t look a day over 100!

I’m proud to be a Canadian, this is not by birth but by choice! My parents moved from Argentina in 1974 and we became Citizens in 1991 (ok my sister Gladys became one earlier and my Sister Maria became one only a few years ago).

This country has embraced us, and enbraces all who call it home!

There are just so many great things to be proud of today.

Thank you Canada for making these years wonderful! Happy Birthday!

Today is my niece Amanda’s 28th birthday.

I can’t believe it has been 28 years since I became an uncle for the first time. I remember being in elementary school and being teased and being called “Uncle Gus” I just hated that. But enough about me

I remember our first Christmas together, we had to open up our presents early because we had to take her to the Hospital since she wouldn’t eat. Some other things I remember, her first steps, her laugh, her kindness, her track meets, her spunk, her Confirmation, and her marriage.

Currently she works for Rogers and has helped me during my time of need last month.

You are one great kid Amanda. You have grown to an amazing woman. I’m so proud to be called your Uncle.

I almost forgot to post that today is my father’s birthday.

Alas he isn’t back in Toronto, but somewhere in Argentina right now and not easy to get a hold of.

So Dad, I wish all the best on your birthday! Hopefully you will have a good time where-ever you might be right now. Give all the family down south my love!

Today is my sister’s birthday. Being the kind brother, I won’t divulge her age, but let’s just say she is older than me
I remember the way we used to fight on the couch with our legs, kicking each other. Boy we have grown up since then (well sorta)

Though she is probably right now sunning herself in Cancun Mexico for a couple weeks, I just wanted to wish her all the best. You deserve the best and a good long holiday. Now don’t get too burnt (though you never do).

Hopefully I’ll see you this summer when I plan to head back to Toronto for a week.

This past weekend Russ and I took off to Seattle for the weekend as my promised Birthday Weekend.

We decided this time around to try out the Peace Arch Crossing as the time wait when we got there said only 30 minutes. To our surprise it actually was about 30 minutes.

As we got into the lovely U-S of A, we were hit with strange weather conditions. From rain, sleet, to a freakish snow storm just south of Bellingham. The weather did improve afterwards for just a few short minutes when we encountered the lovely weather all over again near Marysville. On arrival to Seattle it was nice to see the weather only partly cloudy.

Russ had booked us at the Empire Pacific Hotel, which is an old hotel that has been recently renovated. Alas the view of back lane was something that wasn’t desirable, we couldn’t beat the price.

We unpacked and quickly headed out on the town to do some shopping heading to my favourite store Macy’s. I just love that place, but I was good and didn’t buy anything. We headed to Pike’s Market and I marvelled at the flower shops and the price they were charging for the bouquets. I couldn’t believe that $10 got you a full bouquet that the Vancouver Flourist would charge over $30 for.

We decided to try to find a place that would make a great Bellini (as I’m always on the hunt for one). We stopped into Tulio’s Restaurante and asked the bartender Greg if he made Bellini’s. We were both surprised that he said he makes his version but nothing like Cactus Club’s version. To our surprise his version was very tastey indeed.

As we got to talking with him, we found out he’s wife is from Canada and he had worked in Vancouver for a few years. We were both shocked when he ordered some Scallops from the menu for us as a treat for it being my “birthday weekend”.

We decided that we would come back later for a great dinner and we were not disappointed. Tulio’s makes awesome food and you can see some of my Flickr photos on the wonderful food.  My only beef with Tulio is your website, I don’t know why you have to make people download your menu, they should just be able to click and see it.

After dinner we headed down the street to Vessel.  Vessel makes awesome cocktails, though very pricy.  I think the funkiest part of the bar is you can sit at the window and almost become the front window display.  You can view some of the my Flickr photos.

The next day found us having breakfast and heading down to Pike’s Market again.  They were having a BBQ competition, but alas we were not able to taste any, as the participants were forbidden by the city of Seattle to sell their work.

I had a fantastic time and I thank Russ for making it all possible.

Today is my youngest niece’s sweet 16th.

Again I’m not back home in Toronto to wish her the best today in person, but I would like to wish her all the best. Though I know it is the Easter weekend, I hope she does have some fun (though not too much if you get my meaning…hehehe)
