Today marks the day the Environmental Movement began back in 1970. Canada joined the movement in 1990 for the International Earth Day. Now Earth Day has evolved into Earth Week to help accommodate all the events that are taking place. You can find out what is happening in your region by going to the Earth Day Canada website and clicking on your province [link].
Each year Russ and I try to do our part. I have to admit it isn’t an easy process for us as we are still stuck in our old ways, but we have started bringing our own bags to the grocery stores, we try to recycle as much as we can (though we should really start reducing more). I have stopped buying bottle water as much as possible and have my own bottle at work. These are small steps, and by no means the only steps we are taking. As we get used to doing it more and more, we’ll probably start building on our reduction of waste and reusing what we can.
We all live on this wonderful planet and we must help it as much as we can.
Happy Earth Day everyone!

If you want to take a quick get away outside of the city this weekend, you might want to head over to Fort Langley for their 13th Annual Cranberry Festival on Saturday October 11th.
The festival kicks off at 8:30am with a pancake breakfast with a full list of entertainment through out the day until 5pm.
There is also a free shuttle bus service to Fort Wine Co. for their Cranberry Harvest Demonstrations and Farm Tours.
If the weather holds up Russ and I might head over for a few hours and check things out.

Last night was a fairly informal Third Tuesday, as it was held on a Wednesday night and we had no speaker, yet as always it managed to bring out a lot of people. Since it was held at Steamworks in Gastown, we had a cap of 35 people. I’m sure if we didn’t have a cap, more would have attended.
It was great to see the usual faces, Tanya, Monica, Colleen, Arieanna & Ianvi, Tris, John & his wife, David to name a few, a few faces were missing, Raul, Rebecca. I also got to meet some new people and chat with people face to face that I’ve only chatted with online. I also got to meet Joesph Thornley who started Third Tuesday and was in town for the meet up.
I have to say the change of format was refreshing. It allowed for more interaction and networking than the usual events. Granted the set up of the tables prevented from seeing others in the group as I had my back to 2/3 of the group. All in all, hats off to Tanya on organizing a great event as usual. I’m looking forward to more in the coming months and proud to be a part of such a great group of people!

I’ll be attending VinoCamp this weekend and I’m starting to get excited about it. Granted I’m not a big wine person, but I thought that since Russ’ birthday is coming up I’d treat him to this as he is a lover of wine.
VinoCamp is not a wine festival that some might be used to, nor is it a traditional conference.
In a more unstructured form than a standard conference, VinoCampVancouver brings wine, people and technology together in one place, making wine accessible, educational and fun.
Join us! Whether you’re a speaker, sponsor, or a wine-drinker, our aim is to make this day memorable, fun, and interesting. You will learn more about wine and viticulture, meet interesting people, and enjoy yourself in one of Vancouver’s loveliest gardens.
Of course there will be several bloggers that I know attending this event and since it combines both wine and technology, Russ and I will be happy
. I’m not sure if there are tickets still available, but if there are, grab yourself some and come join the fun.
The schedule looks great and you can get a taste of it here.
I might have a problem getting someone to look after Junior, but I’m sure he will be fine if we don’t.

Being in the Newswire business, every quarter we encounter a very busy time here. This is usually due to companies who are issuing earning releases or, as in our case in Vancouver, mining companies issuing drill result releases. Being the nice guy that I am, I usually stay and help our editorial team proof read these releases and make sure I’m here to answer questions that they might have.
This week has been one very long week for me.
Yesterday was one of those days where I had planned to attend Vancouver’s Wordpress Camp, but due to the work load in our office I stayed behind and worked. Of course the day was also complicated with Junior being ill at 5am that morning, getting a call from work at 7am, and listening to a webcast at 8am for a client. I’m just glad I was able to at least watch the live streaming of the event and it made me feel like I was almost there.
Today I was looking forward to attending IABC BC’s Spring Fling event, but since I’m pretty much exhausted and since I wasn’t registered I decided not to attend. I do plan on attending their next event on Social Media on Tuesday May 13th at the Yaletown Pub.
I’m just looking forward to the weekend where I can have some well deserved R&R.
